Nowadays, more and more people keep pets and some people will want to train them to do some tricks. For instance, training a dog to stand up or training a cat to give you a high five. However, training pets requires patience and tips. Below are some steps based on He’s (2018) study for teaching people how to train a dog to do a trick.
First, choose the right time. When training a dog, it should be done when the dog is full of energy after it wakes up. If you choose the wrong time, the dog will feel annoyed. In addition, the training time should not be too long. The most appropriate time is within 15 minutes. Otherwise, the dog may be impatient.
Second, give rewards when it performs well. Although dogs cannot understand human languages, they will keep their owner's expressions and actions in minds. Therefore, through repeated training, the dog will follow the instructions. If the dog obeys the orders, the owner should give a reward immediately, such as give it snacks.
Finally, to train a dog, there must be a consistent set of gestures and oral commands so that the dog will not be confused or misunderstood. For example, if you want to train your dog to sit down, give it an oral command first, and then press its buttocks with your hands to let it sit down. After it sits down, stroke its head or give a snack as a reward immediately. So the dog will soon understand that t here will be something to eat as long as it obeys the orders. As a result, the dog will be willing to follow your instructions.
In conclusion, to train a dog has its specific sequence. If owners give too many new instructions at a time, dogs will feel confused. Owners have to teach them step by step, and often review the old instructions. In this way, dogs will quickly understand your instructions. As long as you can follow the above steps, I believe that everyone can become a dog training master someday!
